Maximum distance for SimpliFiber Pro

A common question which will depend on your link. Here are some examples.

Multimode
The output of the SimpliFiber Pro Source at 850 nm or 1300 nm is -20 dBm.
The dynamic range of SimpliFiber pro is -52 dBm @ 850 nm.
Assuming 62,5/125 µm cable is being tested,
the two devices used together could in theory measure up to 32 dB loss.

Example link 1:
  • Splice every 2 km (0,3 dB per splice)
  • Connector at each end (0,75 dB per mated connector)
  • Fiber loss = 3,5 dB/km @ 850 nm
  • Would measure up to 8,37 km

Example link 2:

  • Splice every 2 km (0,1 dB per splice)
  • Connector at each end (0,5 dB per mated connector)
  • Fiber loss = 3,0 dB/km @ 850 nm
  • Would measure up to 10,168 km

If you are testing 50/125 µm cable, there can be a coupling loss of up to 4 dB between your smaller 50/125 µm and the source in the SimpliFiber Pro. Therefore,  the two devices (power meter and source) would be able to measure up to 28 dB. In this case, Example 1 above would measure up to 7,313 km  and Example 2 would measure up to 8,868 km

Singlemodus

The output of the SimpliFiber Pro Source at 1310 nm or 1550 nm is -7 dBm.
The dynamic range of SimpliFiber Pro is -60 dBm.
The two devices used together could therefore measure up to 53 dB loss.

Example link 1:

  • Splice every 2 km (0,3 dB per splice)
  • Connector at each end (0,75 dB per mated connector)
  • Fiber loss = 1,0 dB/km @ 1300 nm or 1500 nm
  • Would measure up to 44,9 km

Example link 2:

  • Splice every 2 km (0,1 dB per splice)
  • Connector at each end (0,5 dB per mated connector)
  • Fiber loss = 0,5 dB/km @ 1300 nm or 1500 nm
  • Would measure up to 94,590 km
