Charging The Copper Pro

The CopperPro may be connected to either a 115 to 240VAC outlet via the supplied universal AC Power Cord, or to an external 12VDC automobile battery via the optional Vehicle Power Cord, and operated for extended periods of time without discharging the internal battery pack. During operation from such an external power source, the internal battery will receive a trickle charge.

Connecting to the AC Power Supply
To connect the CopperPro to an external AC power supply, follow these steps:
  • Plug the AC Power Cord into an AC outlet.
  • Connect the power cord DC Barrel plug into the DC connector on the Side Panel of the CopperPro
  • If the unit is off, charging will begin automatically, and the Charging Status LED will flash red.
  • If it is desired to operate the unit while connected to the external power, turn on the CopperPro and begin usage. When the unit is turned on, the Charging Status LED will go off.
Connecting to the Vehicle Power Cord
To connect the CopperPro to an external 12VDC auto battery, follow the above steps using the optional Vehicle Power Cord, plugging the male cigarette lighter plug of the cord into the vehicle lighter socket.

Charging Status LED
When the CopperPro is connected to an external power source but in the powered-down mode, the internal battery will automatically undergo a fast charging cycle. The full charging cycle may take 2 to 3 hours to complete, and is indicated by the state of the Charging Status LED on the Side Connector Panel.
  • Flashing Red The battery is in the Precondition Charge state, which will last about 10 minutes before entering the Fast Charge mode
  • Steady Red The battery is in the Fast Charge mode, which could last up to 3 hours for a completely discharged pack
  • Steady Green The battery has entered the Top-off Charge state after fast charging, which will last normally 30 minutes; or it is in the final Trickle Charge state, indicating a fully charged pack. The CopperPro may be left in this state for an indefinite period, without harm

Low Battery Warnings
When the CopperPro battery pack has about 30 minutes of run time remaining, an audible tone will sound and a low-battery warning message will be displayed on the LCD. This message will overlay the existing screen, and may be removed by pressing the ENTER key.

Hinweis:
If the Low Battery message appears during operation, it is advisable to connect the CopperPro to an external power source within the next several minutes, to guarantee that current test data is not lost due to power failure.

If the CopperPro continues to be operated with no external power source applied, the unit will finally issue a distinctive audible tone, and power itself down.

Checking Remaining Battery Capacity
The remaining capacity of the internal battery pack may be seen at any time by pressing the USER OPTIONS key, then selecting the Battery Status menu option. The current battery voltage will be displayed, along with the estimated remaining capacity in hours, based on continued normal usage. This same information is also displayed momentarily on the startup screen, after the unit has been turned on.
